Rotary Club of Gants Hill is proud to share the accomplishments of past president Shaheen Readlamb, owner of P&S Chemist, who was recently awarded the “Independent Pharmacy Innovation Award” for creating a new clinical enhanced service, which expands the pharmacist’s role in opiate treatment.
Shaheen was commissioned to create a pharmacy-led buprenorphine (Buvidal) pilot to treat opioid dependence. As a key member of the Buvidal Working Group, Shaheen carried out risk assessments and observed a private clinic providing the service. The impact of the service has been dramatic as Shaheen explained. “One young client I treated who was homeless, after being injected, has felt the burden of being seen as a drug addict has been lifted and has already started volunteering for work”.
This is a remarkable achievement and truly service above self, a proud moment not only for Shaheen and the team at P&S but also for Rotary club of Gants Hill.
Rotary Club of Gants Hill meets every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month for a meal at 7.30pm for 8pm at Kanchans, 53-55 Perth Road, Gants Hill IG2 6BX. The club contact is Prab Baxi on 07917 131 659.
